To help frame this blog and put things in perspective, here's a little bit more about me...
I married my high-school sweetheart, on a beach, barefoot, in Hawaii.
I consider myself an overachiever, and I'm proud of it. I completed my BS in Applied Math in three years, have an MS and Graduate Certificate in Systems Engineering and started a PhD in Electrical Engineering, focusing in Neural Networks (on hold because of the whole 'mom-thing'.) I've been with my current company for 7 years and have 8 years total work experience. I was selected to participate in a two year rotational leadership program. After I had Roland, I was convinced that I was transformed from a career-oriented woman to a mother who was committed to focusing 100% of my efforts on my family...three weeks back from maternity leave, I applied for and was selected for my dream job and realized I was delusional to drastically change my focus. Now, I'm working on balancing my career and family goals.
I am a jack-of-all-trades, master of none...although I'd like to think that I'm training to be a Master of Motherhood! I love to cook, so much so that I applied for the first and second season of 'The Next Food Network Star'. I've played the piano for 20+ years and just acquired my first baby grand! I like to read in my 'spare time' (wink, wink) and I'm part of a knitting group with ladies that I just adore. (I've completed 5 out of the 20 projects I have going...and I'm not kidding).
I tend to be bubbly, positive and optimistic 87% of the time (for those that are wondering, I reserve the right to be cranky and irritable 4 days out of the month).
Why did I decide to write this blog? For multiple reasons. I've always wanted to write a book and this is a topic that I'm passionate about, and something that I'm experiencing and figuring out first hand. When I was going through my pregnancy and the first couple months after Roland was born, I asked my family and friends numerous questions but they were unable to remember the specific details of certain events. I was sure that Roland or Roland's wife would ask me questions in 20-30 years as they prepare for the arrival of their little one and I didn't want to say "I don't remember." That is my motivation and I hope you enjoy my little tid-bits of information along the way.
